WOW! It’s been one HELL of a weekend…

In Chicago, at a Hustle Simmons show featuring Big Sean, an artist who wasn’t allowed to do his set got on stage and Kanye’d Big Sean.

I’ll stop for a second to let you digest the irony, and comedy, of that situation…

After this unfortunate fool snatched the mic out of Big Sean’s hand, he said, “F*ck Chicago. F*ck everyone in this b*tch,” and rocket launched the microphone to the ceiling… then Hustle Simmons hit him with a Chris Benoit reverse German Suplex from the stage to the ground -what seemed to be about a good six foot drop.

The best part? IT WAS ALL CAPTURED ON VIDEO FOR OUR AMUSEMENT!!!!

And if that wasn’t enough drama for you, let’s come back home to Detroit… Detroit: Where the movie, “Janky Promoters,” should have been filmed and based off.

Chip Tha Ripper was SCHEDULED to perform in Detroit last night, at Bert’s Warehouse. THAT’S where it seems that the Tom F*ckery started. I won’t go in about my brief encounters with Chips team (missed an interview w/no call, got a TEXT the NEXT day to set another one up, only to miss that one… it’s been a week now, no one’s even bothered to contact us still – if only to apologize for missing our scheduled interview), but this extreme fail isn’t accredited to Chip or his people.

The show, which I posted a Ro Spit promo vid about a couple weeks ago, featured performances from DOPE acts such as: Selfmeyi, PL, and Ro Spit – with Chip scheduled as the headliner. I won’t even get into how askew charging $20 for a show where Chip is headlining in Detroit is, but when the price is inflated even higher than advertised at the door? The DJ is two hours late, then cussed out on stage, then fussed out on Twitter in PUBLIC by the promoter? There’s a MANDATORY coat check of $3? But you can still wear your coat if you pay the $3?

That’s just the tip of the iceberg! I’ll say this: CONCERT’S CAN NOT BE PROMOTED LIKE CLUB/PARTY EVENTS!

I’ll let the homegirl, Alex Washington, fill you in on the specifics:

And Motivation Boutique in Ann Arbor fills in anything that Alex may have missed.

There’s an infusion of talent amongst the Hip Hop scene in Michigan. Every time I’m ready to say that I give up on this next generation of kids and their adaptation, or lack thereof, of Hip Hop, another artist or dope group comes across my radar.

That’s where the Clear Soul Forces come in to play.

There’s a lesson that can be learned from this generation. This generation of new artists, for the most part, is on their grind. They have the digital game on LOCK. No one has to tell them where to put their music to be heard, and no one has to tell them how to properly tag their digital music. They have the creativity on lock. They can do their own photoshop work, they can shoot their own photo shoots, they can produce their own beats, and they can record their own music. PAY ATTENTION!

Ok, enough with my rant…

These guys here are pretty dope. I respect their grind and they can put it down. So often you come across a new artist these days and they have no appreciation for the game and those that have come before them. When I saw Ilajide of Clear Soul Forces step on stage, beat box AND rap, during the open mic portion of the WHUTUPODE.COM Launch Show last Saturday and not only get my attention but the attention of Invincible? I knew these dudes were on the right path.

They released their first mixtape at midnight. So, go cop it. It’s free. Do your part to support the next generation of acts to do this!

Rhymefest and Skyzoo link up for the Rubyhornet & DJ RTC project, Closed Sessions Vol.1.

In the words of DJ RTC:

“I really dug into Skyzoo’s material while making the first Brainiac Mixtape with Naledge. He put two Skyzoo tracks on the mix and I was more than impressed. I went back into Sky’s catalog and eagerly awaited the release of his debut LP, The Salvation. Shortly before the album’s release, I had the chance to interview Skyzoo and he told me that he heard about Closed Sessions, and our Dimes and Dozens party in which we bring out of town artists into Chicago and have them perform at our monthly event. He expressed interest in doing the same and I was definitely with it. We organized a show for Skyzoo at The Darkroom, and setup a Closed Session for him the following day.

Virgil and Ruben took Sky all around the city before his show, and when he hit SoundScape we could all tell that Chicago had made an impression on him. Rhymefest ended up just being at the studio during Skyzoo’s session, the two hit it off very quickly with help from this K-Salaam and Beatnik track and the concept for “Crack The Code” was born. Skyzoo’s verse centers on the intricacies of Chicago, while Rhymefest raps about the nature of New York City. It’s an homage to two great homes for Hip Hop, and a pairing of two great emcees.”

You’d think that being the cousin of Black Milk would create an unbelievable amount of pressure. Not for Nametag. Blessed with the gift of rhyme, and another cousin in Black Bethoven that’s also a producing wiz, Tag’s been killing it.

This is his new track, “Time,” from his new project, The Soul System EP.

Street Justice is one of my favorite groups out that you need to hear. Every last one of those guys (Redd, Jypsy, and Ketchphraze) are solo artist capable emcees and they put on one of the best stage shows I’ve seen.

I just got this Ketchphraze track from the homie Pat featuring Chanes, Quest MCODY, Miz Korona, and Marvwon produced by Chanes. BANGER!

I’ve had the distinct pleasure of being in the studio with Bizarre while he recorded a couple tracks off the album, and I got to hear damn near all of Live At St. Andrews in its entirety. This is Bizarre like most of you aren’t used to hearing him. This album is gonna CRACK. It’s by far some of the best production I’ve ever heard on an indie release.

This is a vid they cranked out for the song, “U Remind Me,” featuring Krondon on the hook. BANGER!

DISCLAIMER: The views and opinions expressed by the, “Angry Black Man,” are those of him and him alone, and do not represent WHUTUPDOE.COM or its staff… maybe what the fuck do you expect? He’s an angry black man!

I went to the WHUTUPDOE.COM Launch Show on Saturday and I had a good time. BUT being that I am the Angry Black Man, I have to find something to bitch about.

Well what can I bitch about from this party? Well how about this; People are always complaining that it’s nothing to do in Detroit. I turned down two other parties to go to the WHUTUPDOE release so apparently it’s somethig going on in Detroit.

I wonder why people are always complaining about it not being anything to do. Every week the Metro Times, Real Detroit, Metromix, Fusicology and numerous publications and websites post things that are going on around town. Then you have all the small time promoters hosting parties around town that don’t get the buzz the big parties do. Then you have all the other random activities around town: Hundreds of restaurants, paintball/lazertag arenas, bowling, plays, comedy shows… I think you get my point. But there is so much going on in this city I don’t understand why people say, “It’s nothing to do.”

I’m going to go with the assumption that the people that say this are probably lames. You have no friends and you’re probably such an insufferable human being that the highlight of your week is online poker. But if you are that lonely and miserable, then yeah I can kind of understand why you say it’s nothing to do. They don’t want to go out and see people having a good time while they are miserable.

So that’s my answer and that’s what I’m angry about today. People bitching about it being nothing to do in Detroit. And hey here is another option; If you don’t like any of the things that there are to do, make an event that you would enjoy you lazy sack of shit! These people are not only miserable but they are lazy too because they haven’t taken the time to something they would enjoy. Yeah, I said it. People are miserable and lazy, and generally like to complain. And do nothing about their complaints.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to get some angry emails about this but I really don’t give a fuck. The people this is directed to are probably too lazy to read this. So I don’t have to worry about offending them. And if I offended you? Well why don’t you take the advice of Moe Dirdee and get the hell out of the city, because you don’t belong in Detroit.

We all remember hearing the phrase, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” growing up. For those of who don’t, it was a basic principle used to get people in the habit of recycling products (i.e. paper, plastic & glass) not just for repeated use, but for a healthier environment. Obvious explanation right!? Over the years of my ever so young life, this phrase has come to reflect not just the Pepsi bottles, but so many other things; things like “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Music or Lyrics”, and for some people, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Men & Women.” More recently, I’ve noticed what seems like Hollywood’s role to Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle minority actors and actresses.

You ask what stemmed this reflection? The recent March cover issue of “Vanity Fair” magazine titled, “A New Decade a New Hollywood: Starring the Fresh Faces of 2010.”

Really? They are all white women! Don’t get me wrong, they are all talented actresses, but where is the diversity? Where is Gabourey Sidibe (Precious), America Ferrera (Ugly Betty), Zoe Saldona (Star Trek, Avatar), Frieda Pinto (Slumdog Millionaire), just to name a few! The bigger question is, if this is considered up and coming for young Hollywood, where are the roles for minorities?

Where are minorities represented in Hollywood? Where do they fit? And when will the door open for new talent? I am tired of seeing movies with the same actors, especially in African-American films. Don’t get me wrong, these people are great at their craft, some better than others. And some, well, yeah you get the idea. We are reducing opportunities, by reusing and recycling talent. Unveil some new faces and while we are at it, let us construct some new roles.

Not only are minorities lacking in movies, but also primetime TV. There are a select shows that have their “token” Asian, Latino, Indian or African American receiving typical roles as drug dealers, killers, terrorist, martial artists, etc. In actuality, the only time I see minorities in key positions on mainstream television are in news programs. However, in that same sentence, I have to then narrow that category to local news. How about I narrow the scope even more and just say local urban dominated cities. I will give CNN some slack, though. There is a substantial presence of diversity on their news team, on- and off-air! Not just contributors! So Kudos!

I am not one to sit and complain about who I see and where I’m seeing them. I am just tired of the unjust material that is suppose to represent me. Will minorities ever be considered equal? Will we continue to search for our place in America? This is supposed to be the land of opportunity. It is about time those opportunities begin knocking on our doors!

Oh my GOD! I can’t begin to explain to you how much of a Miz Korona fan-slash-stan I am. I rep hard for good music, and dedicated/hard working artists. Miz Korona is definitely one of those artists.

Insert Dope Muzik here.

Having the idea for this project for about four years, Korona finally got to work on it in 2008:

Dope Muzik was a project of passion. I was inspired to do it after losing two of our most influential artist from the city, Dilla & Proof, and listening to a lot of their music both recent releases and classic unreleased material along with other classic albums based out of the early to mid 90′s. Then I approached The Lab Techs about doing the project with me around 06 but our schedules put a halt to the project. A year later I met Chanes and the idea resurfaced and the rest is history. We started recording it in 2008.

The concept and title came from the mind state that the beats and rhymes from that [early-mid 90’s] era put me in. Everything was dope back then. The style of the rhyme patterns, the beats, the way they shot videos: I just wanted to recapture that in my own way.

Also, drug addiction was at an all time high around that time so I tried to tap into the mind of an addict but from an artist standpoint.

We recorded the album in 7 days. I recorded a song the first day I met Chanes. The second day I went back and we worked for 18 hours straight, knocked out 10 songs all from scratch.

And there you have it. 14 tracks of pure CRACK. Miz Korona’s first official studio album is coming soon!

01) Miz Korona – Intro (Take It Back)
02) Miz Korona – Hip Hop Is In My Veins feat. Twan
03) Miz Korona – Dope
04) Miz Korona – The Itch
05) Miz Korona – Pete Rock
06) Miz Korona – Hold On
07) Miz Korona – Withdrawl (Dilla-Lude)

09) Miz Korona – Trouble Heartache

12) Miz Korona – This Or That feat. Real Reid
13) Miz Korona – Let’s Walk
